Managing Heritage Assets and Development in Smaller Settlements

It was good to be meet in person at Kellogg College, University of Oxford for a day of excellent, thought-provoking presentations and discussions on Friday 15 March. Many different professional and personal interests in managing heritage assets in smaller settlements were represented at the seminar. The topics ranged from landscape character assessment and the design and planning of green infrastructure to neighbourhood development plans and conservation area appraisals; how the history of a settlement is used to inform its conservation and renewal; and community involvement in conservation projects. In addition to these talks and a group discussion, there was time for informal conversations and networking.

Thanks again to the speakers Ian Houlston, Malcolm Airs, Harriet Pillman and Geraint Coles. We were also delighted that the two students taking part in a University of Oxford micro-internship were able to attend – Holley Wakeling and Yunzhang Liang. Various strands of discussion will be picked up in future events.

We’d like to thank the NHLF for their support of this event.
