Herbert Lane
Dr. Herbert Arthur Lane: born 4th June 1928, died 20th July 2005
Educated at Felsted School, Essex and Lincoln College, Oxford, Herbert Lane channelled his prodigious energies into the formation of a campaign concerned about the unacceptable erosion of heritage, character and beauty in market towns and across the countryside.
In the late 1980s he co-founded the Association of Small Historic Towns and Villages (ASHTAV).
