Pre-Application Advice: Raising Expectations before Applications

Early engagement has significant potential to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the planning application system for all parties. Good quality pre-application discussion enables better coordination between public and private resources and improved outcomes for the community. (NPPF para 188)

With new research to share about the most effective ways for local planning authority teams and developers set off on the right foot on development schemes, this webinar will consider what kinds of pre-planning application processes or protocols to adopt, and what difference they can make.
Given the publication of the National Design Guide and National Model Design Code – both intended to be easily adopted by local authorities – and the promise of greater focus on ‘place’ with the new Office for Place and a planned School for Place, what else can we do to raise the standard of development proposals? Do early interventions help the process and outcomes, especially for heritage-related projects, and to what extent can local authority teams borrow or learn from each other when resources are so tight?
