Forum funding success: reaching rural communities

We are delighted to have received the news from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) that the Forum’s application to the Grants for Heritage programme has been successful.

The project is entitled: Reaching rural communities: the value of heritage assets for social, environmental and economic well-being. As part of this project we will bring together third sector organisations (including civic society and rural community groups) and interested individuals with local authority planning and conservation officers, architects, urban designers and other heritage professionals in a pilot project on rural settlements. There is a wealth of expertise in the use of heritage assets in our larger cities and better-known heritage sites, but people living and working in smaller towns and villages have fewer opportunities for engagement, networking and peer learning, and this is the gap that will be filled by this project.

The Historic Towns and Villages Forum (HTVF) has over thirty years of experience in providing support, training and information to promote the prosperity and heritage of historic cities, towns and villages. We work with a variety of groups and individuals who are interested in or involved with the planning and management of historic cities, towns and villages. The Forum is keen to re-establish our in-person and on-the-ground activities with a fresh focus on heritage in our rural communities. So, look out for our site visit days this summer and early autumn, and a final wrap up event in late 2024.
